How To Train Your Dog To Recall

If you’re a dog-parent is the case, then you need to know that responsible dog ownership along with positive training and greater understanding be a big help in the direction of ensuring the health and well-being of your dog’s member of your family.

We spoke to Paramita Das, a dog trainer and behaviorist from Kolkata for a discussion on how to handle dog-related issues and expand opportunities in the dog training bangkok field of dog behavior and canine behavior.

What exactly is it that is the task of an animal behaviorist?

Paramita Das Dog behaviorists help pet owners aid them in understanding the behaviors of their pets. They also develop a program that helps address and manage problems like theseTo achieve this, these experts study the patterns of behavior of dogs, observe interactions of dogs with owners, and then interpret and watch the body language of dogs in various situations.

How did you get into this field?

PD: After more than two decades in the corporate world I was determined to pursue my love for dealing with dog owners. I realized that, in addition to loving dogs, it’s important to learn to understand their needs as they’re distinct from humans.

After I had completed my first canine trainer’s training course, I decided to help pet parents teach their dogs to be more gentle and positive methods. My aim was to ensure that they and their dog family members have a an enjoyable lifeThen, I went on to attend classes on canine behaviour and aggression as well.

What are the daily tasks in this profession?

PD: My daily activities consist of teaching young puppies as well as adult dogs to be good pet companions, teaching dogs to play games as well as working with families that are experiencing behavioral issues with their dogs. I also work with chewing and destructive behaviour, separation anxiety issues, attention-seeking behaviour, toilet practice fears, leash walking and aggression issues.

What’s the most common challenge you’re faced with?

PD: Although the majority of us believe that the dog is responsible for the issue, a lot of issues are caused by those who own pets. There is an inadequacy of knowledge about the reasons why dogs behave in a certain way and how we might have contributed to this behavior. In today’s busy and hectic pace of life, both time as well as patience are limitedThat’s one of the biggest problemsOnce the family has invested in taking care of your pets in a disciplined way, things get easier.

Can you describe the procedures you use when working with a dog with behaviour issues?

PD: I mostly follow techniques to help the pet’s owner understand for their dog’s behavior problemsIt’s essential to let the family members be involved in obedience training to ensure that their pet obeys them in a variety of situations and in the appropriate manner. Pet owners must have some influence on their dog’s behavior in a positive manner. My job is to implement an approach to build the bond between pets and their families.

What are the most frequent mistakes that pet owners make when communicating with their dogs?

A lot of pet owners treat their dogs like humans or a toy. A dog is a living being , distinct from other species. Humans are primates while the dogs belong to canids. While dogs are most beloved companions, some pet owners must recognize that they belong to a different speciesSo, it’s important for them to know the dog’s species. Families need to be aware of the dog breed and use that information positively.

What would you advise someone planning to bring a puppy at home?

PD: Recognize that the dog is a distinct species and be prepared to devote a significant amount of effort and timeLearn more about your dog –– teach the puppy acceptable manners, take him/her out for walks, play safe games with him/her and become involved in activities that he/she is interested in.

Be prepared for financial commitments such as vet bills, costs when your dog falls ill, grooming charges, boarding charges during your absence, relocation costsAlso, you should put an emergency plan to be in place in the event of any emergency.

Overall, I think you should be prepared for a long-term commitment of 12 to 14 years bringing up a dogWe may pursue our own hobbies and interests but a dog’s reliance is upon the human family to provide a wonderful life. Don’t let your dog down on that.

What advice do you have to young people who have pets?

PD: Take part in your dog’s lifeDo your best to participate in the things that your dog truly enjoys. If you own a Labrador, take him/her for a dip. If you have a Beagle or Indie you can take them for scent-based games in the park. Spend quality times with the pet and build relationships that lastSpending time with your pet is the most important thing.

What are the possible academic and professional pathways if someone is interested in becoming a dog trainer and behaviorist?

The PD: There are courses which can be pursued to learn the information and education required to become a professional dog behaviorist. I have attended courses run by Shirin Merchant who is one leading experts in the field of dog behavior and instruction in India. I also have taken courses by John Rogerson, who is a world-renowned canine trainer and behaviorist. The two trainers Shirin and John use kinder and positive methods of training, which focus on building a strong bond between the dog and his/her family.

What are the career streams that one could pursue while doing work with dog?

PD A lot of opportunities in this growing field. The public is becoming more aware about the need to take your pets to a specialist nowadaysWorking as a vet, groomer, trainer, and behaviorist are among the most common optionsYou can also run the boarding center for dogsAnimal rescue or working in a shelter is another optionIf you are trained properly you could also be a pet nutritionist.
